Discover the Hidden Nightlife of Paynes Prairie! Ever wondered what happens at Paynes Prairie after dark? Now’s your chance to find out!
Join Friends of Paynes Prairie, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the University of Florida, and the Division of Plant Industry for a one-of-a-kind Nighttime Insect Discovery Event this spring. Scientists will set up light sheets to attract and showcase some of the most fascinating nocturnal insects—many of which are rarely seen by visitors!
What to Expect:
• Up-close encounters with incredible night-active insects.
• Educational outreach tables on insect diversity and museum collections.
• Learn why these tiny creatures play a big role in our ecosystem.
• This is a nighttime event, so come prepared! Wear long pants, long sleeves, and closed-toed shoes, and bring a headlamp (red light setting recommended unless you want to be the main attraction for insects!).
Don’t miss this unique opportunity to experience Paynes Prairie like never before. Stay curious, stay adventurous, and we’ll see you after dark!
All Ages!
