For their final show of the 2025 season, Buchholz Players proudly presents Hadestown: Teen Edition. Performed with a live band, this musical is a full-length Teen Edition of Anaïs Mitchell’s haunting, jazz-inflected folk opera which follows Orpheus’ mythical quest to overcome Hades while focusing on the intertwined love stories of Orpheus and Eurydice, and Hades and Persephone, set in a post-apocalyptic, industrialized underworld called Hadestown.
Hadestown invites audiences on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Characters include King Hades and his wife Persephone, who have a strained relationship that mirrors the decay of the current world. You’ll also see Orpheus and Eurydice - a musician and his lady love who has been lured to Hadestown by the king. The musical explores themes of industry vs. nature, doubt vs. faith, and fear vs. love, while also commenting on societal issues like power, wealth, and the resilience of the human spirit.
Student co-director Quinn Horwitz shared, “What I find so amazing about Hadestown is that it’s an exciting retelling of a story that is not new or fresh but rather frozen in time. This cast has shown exceptional talent and passion for these complex characters and this beautiful story again and again.”
Student co-director and graduating senior Ellie Caton added “This is a show full of passion and awe and it will always remain special to me as my last show at Buchholz High School. I am so proud of our cast and crew and they have worked so diligently to put together their rendition of Hadestown: Teen Edition.”
