Learn about fireflies and see thousands of them light up the night! This special after-hours program is a truly magical experience.
THE APRIL 4TH STARTING DATE IS TENTATIVE
Fireflies could be emerging as early as Friday, April 4th, but the fireflies call the shots. Dates and sales of tickets will be announced once we see a favorable forecast 10 days out.
If you have an Annual Florida State Park pass, it will only cover the Park Entry Fee. Plan to arrive at the gate no later than 7:15PM, present your Registration Confirmation, and pay the Park Entry Fee (or show your State Park Pass).
Online registration is recommended. It will streamline your entry into the park. There will be a cap on the number of persons allowed into the event on each date it runs. A VERY small number of tickets will be available to purchase on each event date. Day-of tickets will be sold at the Ranger Station as you enter the park from 7:00PM to 7:30PM only.
The event begins at 7:45PM with a short orientation before heading off on the trail. The Firefly Trail is an easy walk of no more than 3/4’s of a mile, and winds through a little-traveled area of O’Leno State Park.
All event attendees not camping in the park must be out of the park by 10:00PM.
IMPORTANT TIPS
- Please wear sturdy walking or hiking shoes.
- Avoid using insect repellent! Protect against mosquitoes with long sleeves and pants.
- NO FLASHLIGHTS OR CELL PHONE LIGHTS ALLOWED!
It interferes with firefly activity. Rangers and guides will have red-filtered flashlights to guide you in the darkness.
In the event of significant rain, the any event date may be rescheduled or cancelled.
