Celebrate World Theatre Day by playing imrov games, doing stage design crafts, and drawing Shakespeare comics.
World Theatre Day was started by the International Theatre Institute in 1962. This program celebrates theatre as a collaborative art form that calls for visual art skills, STEM learning, and performance art skills. Attendees will play improvisational games to create short scenes by drawing inspiration from prewritten prompts, and the library's props and costumes. We will also design sets using miniature periaktoi (triangular columns that rotate to change a scene backdrop), and learn how to apply acting lessons when drawing comics by drawing characters reciting dialogue and monologues from Shakespeare.
