Alachua Audubon Field Trip: A Little Sit

  • When: Sunday, May 4, 2025,  7:00 am - 11:30 am
  • Location: Multiple Locations (see description for details)
  • Cost: See description for details

What is a “Big Sit”? It’s a birding event where teams try to see how many species they can spot from one small area in one day. Believe it or not, there is actually a formal event called “The Big Sit!” - we aren’t going to do that, at least not this time.

We’re going to try something more like “ A Little Sit” since we haven’t tried it before and don’t know how various aspects of it will work for us.

Join sit leaders Adam or Gina Kent!

There will be two groups - one at Turkey Creek Preserve and one at Sweetwater Wetlands Park. You can start at one location and stay all morning or switch!

We will bird from 7 am until 11:30 am, join us any time!

Turkey Creek Preserve: 6300 NW 93rd Ave, Gainesville, FL 32653
- free parking
- bring your own camp chair
- meet at the large grassy opening just past the parking area

Sweetwater Wetlands: 325 SW Williston Rd, Gainesville, FL 32601
- $5 parking
- meet at the large pavilion in cell 1
- bring your own camp chair, as seating may be limited
- please do not block access and impede other park visitors from using the pavilion
After 11:30, we can meet for lunch at Depot Park on S Main St and talk about the morning’s fun.

What to expect: This event is open to everybody, including beginner birders. Accessible parking is available at both sites but accessible restrooms and water fountains are only at SWP.
Please feel free to bring coffee/snacks and a camp chair with you and anything you need to protect yourself from heat, sun and insects.

Stop by for half an hour or stay for the whole morning!
