City of Gainesville and Star Center Theatre present Once on This Island Jr. the Musical in the Grace and Sidney Knight Children's Theatre at the Historic Thomas Center.
Adapted from the Broadway musical, Once on this Island Jr. retells Hans Christian Anderson's fairy tale The Little Mermaid with dance and Caribbean-inspired songs. Ti Moune, a peasant girl, falls for Daniel, a wealthy boy from the other side of the island, as she tries to care for him after an accident. When Daniel returns home, her gods set Ti Moune on a quest that brings her up against the forces of hatred and death. Audiences all over have been moved by this timeless love story.
