Annasemble Orchestra Spring Concert-Belonging

  • When: Sunday, May 5, 2024,  3:00 pm -  5:00 pm
  • Location: First United Methodist Church of Gainesville 419 NE 1st St, Gainesville, FL 32601
  • Cost: Free

The Annasemble Community Orchestra this year will focus on music that celebrates the identities of the peoples in the nation and the world - BELONGING -.
We will feature music by composers well known, such as Antonin Dvorak, who composed the New World Symphony. We will also look at lesser known music by black and women composers such as Joseph Bologne and Florence Price. As always Annasemble will feature music from the limitless and amazing pool of other styles of music, within the scope of our theme this year.

It is this music that connects us to questions around who we are and who we belong to; music that helps us affirm and ponder simultaneously. The lyrics, melodies and poetry we can find back in music all combine to the extraordinary beauty and powerful effect it can have in our lives. Playing this music: a privilege, exploring it, likewise and sharing it, a feast.

Annasemble is an intergenerational, mostly strings, community orchestra under the musical direction of Annemieke Pronker-Coron. The orchestra includes adult musicians as well as members of high school and college age. Annasemble takes pride in embracing musicians regardless of experience.

This event is funded in part by a grant from the City of Gainesville, Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department.
