Interactive Storytime for Kids w/ Local Author J.N. Fishhawk at Third House Books

Local author J.N. Fishhawk will hold a free, in-person, interactive storytime event for parents and kids at 2PM on Saturday, April 29th at Third House Books in Gainesville. This program is part of Third House Books' activities for Independent Bookstore Day 2023.
The event will feature a pirate treasure chest full of costumes and props with which kids can help Fishhawk tell the tale of his protagonist Billy, who heads out for a day of adventure on the waters of the Wide Whim Sea in his grandfather’s little ship, the Tugboat SallyForth.
"Billy & Tugboat SallyForth" is the first in an ongoing series of books set in the World of Whim Sea, a fantasy world full of whacky nautical adventures and silly puns that Fishhawk and illustrator Johnny Rocket are co-creating together.
The interactive storytime event is ideal for children ages 5-10, but younger and older kids are welcome, too. Everyone is invited to participate, at whatever level they choose—there will be costumes and props for kids who want to help portray some of the characters in the story, and props for audience members to play along with, as well. Fishhawk and Rocket have even had some grownups get in on the act at some of their storytime presentations, in the past. Their motto is “Fun for kids of all ages!”
Copies of the book and other Whim Sea swag including coloring books, greeting cards, fine art prints, and sea shanty zines will be available before and after the presentation. Fishhawk will stick around to sign copies of the book and chat with parents and children afterwards. Rocket, who usually assists with storytime presentations by handing out props and helping kids with their costumes, will sadly not be on hand for this event, so Fishhawk will be assisted by local friends and family.
This event is free and open to the public. A fun—and extremely silly—time is guaranteed for all!
