Calling Junior Rangers! Birds live in lots of different habitats. At Ichetucknee, we have at least 13 different types of habitats. Wow! These birds have to have different shaped bodies so they fit in where they live and eat. Together we'll be learning about how beaks and wings are specially adapted for their favorite habitat.
This special extended length program will be broken up in two parts. In the first part we will experiment with different tools representing bird beak styles and learn how these differences change what a bird can eat. In the second part we will discuss the power of different wing styles. We'll take what we learn from this lesson and the first to craft our own imaginary birds that could thrive at Ichetucknee Springs State Park.
In between the two activities, we will take a short break before transitioning. During this time families will have the option to stay for the remaining duration of the program, or leave with instructions how to complete the second activity at home.
Program participants are not required to be Junior Rangers. However, if your family is interested in enrolling, we encourage you to arrive 20 minutes early or staying after. Junior Rangers will receive a "Natural Resources" stamp in their passports for participating. This program is best suited for learners 9 years old and up. We will have coloring sheets available for younger siblings if they choose not to participate in the activities.
