The Veteran community of Alachua County, takes great pride in the memorial to our Veterans. Originally dedicated in 1993, the memorial presents a "Walk Through Time" starting in 1775 through present year. Each tile block on the walkway represents one year, each brick on the individual monuments represents 1000 military lives lost. Two hundred sixty-seven names of deceased service members who entered their military service from this country are inscribed on main concourse edifices. Granite headstones at the flagpole end of the concourse reflect names of five hundred four University of Florida students who died as a result of our nation's wars.
This monument was reinvented and rededicated in November of 2016 after it was rebuilt with the same linier theme. It is now at 80% scale to be inclusive of military action from 1990 to present and to allow room for future conflicts.
