
Summer Band is an instrumental music summer program for students going into grades 6-8 (or students that just finished grades 5-7) to continue instrumental music learning, or begin an instrument, over the summer. Students should be Alachua County Public School or P.K. Younge Developmental School students. Homeschool students that are enrolled for their Middle School Band Program also qualify.
Classes Offered:
Beginning Band: Students who have never been in band. Advanced Band: students who have taken at least one year of band.
What will students learn: Advanced students will learn: Music Theory, Music Composition, Small Ensemble performance, and Band Performance. Beginning Band Students will learn to read music, put together and begin the fundamentals of playing their instruments.
Jazz Band (1:00-2:30, Monday - Friday each week after the regular camp day)
This is open to current 6th and 7th grade students who have one or more years of band experience. Students will learn Jazz Style and will play Jazz Charts for the concert. There is an additional registration fee for this class.
Parents/Guardians will be responsible to provide transportation to and from Summer Band. There is a concert and cook out on the last day of camp, so please mark your calendars!
