Center for Autism and Related Disabilities: Understanding Special Education Law

The presentation will focus on an overview of legal rights for students with disabilities in public education and information on the services provided by Three Rivers Legal Services.

The attendees will learn the differences in the protections between the Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act (IDEA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (504).

The attendees will understand the eligibility criteria for an individualized education plan (IEP) and a 504 Plan.
The attendees will understand what a free and appropriate public education (FAPE) is and how to enforce that right.
