10AM
The community is invited to meet at Laurel Hill Cemetery, to receive small American flags, to place on the grave sites of veterans. We will begin with an Invocation from Rev. Green followed by a cannon salute and "Taps." The flags will be handed out after "Taps." Please let me know, as soon as you can, if anyone wants additional flags for the other cemeteries in the local area. Just let me know how many, and representatives of those cemeteries will be able to pick up their flags after "Taps."
5PM
The main event of the day will be held at the Community Center. The City will provide food and refreshments. The event will start outside with the bugle call,"Retreat" followed by cannon fire and the bugle call "To the Colors," while the flag is lowered, folded and placed on a table next to the memorial plaque. The Mayor, and City Commissioners will then place a wreath at the plaque.
We'll move inside the Community Center for an Invocation by Rev. Pisco, Presentation of the Colors, and singing of the National Anthem. Mayor Baily will provide her remarks, after which, the community is invited to speak about their friends or family members, who either died while in Service, or subsequently died from Service-related injury or illness. The intent is for this to be a celebration of the lives of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Please bring photos, or other mementos, of the Fallen to display in the Community Center during the event. This event will close with a Toast to the Fallen, a closing prayer, and the singing of "America the Beautiful. The Library will set-up a pop-up arts and crafts table the week before Memorial Day and then have the items, on Memorial Day, at the Community Center.
