Second Saturdays at Sweetwater presents Darren Burgess Jazz Collective

Join us for our first Second Saturdays at Sweetwater of 2024! The Darren Burgess Jazz Collective, featuring Patricia Markoch on vocals and Rafael Abdalla on bass, will perform a free concert from the front porch of the Matheson House.

Bring your folding chairs and blankets and enjoy an afternoon of jazz standards from the Great American Song Book.
Darren Burgess has played Jazz guitar since his time in the Jazz Program at Ithaca College in the 1980s. He plays in the Gainesville Big Band, the Hot Club Deville and the Wave Mechanics. You can even catch him singing bass with the Barbergators barbershop chorus.

Patricia Markoch has been singing and playing flute for over 30 years in Ohio and here in Gainesville. Patricia loves singing jazz and has performed at Leonardo’s 706 with the Marty Liquori Jazztet and Hot Club Deville jazz groups as well as Baby J’s.
Brazilian bass player and composer Rafael Abdalla has been one of the most active musicians in the Brazilian music scene over the last ten years. He has recorded four albums as a leader and has participated in over 30 other instrumental albums.
