The City of Gainesville is excited to host the Journey to Juneteenth Freedom Walk.
This walk is meant to educate and engage the Gainesville community on the rich history, legacy and resilience of Black and African Americans locally and nationally.
The 5k walk begins at Depot Park, extends into the community and ends back at Depot Park. Neighborhood booths will share the history of the following neighborhoods: Porters Quarters, Springhill, Sugarhill and Lincoln Estates.
Walking has played a huge role in the liberation of the Black and African American communities, whether (literally) walking to freedom along the Underground Railroad, walking through neighborhoods for marches and protests, walking to work with dignity during the Montgomery Bus Boycott or walking to improve health and wellbeing.
We look to honor the past and celebrate the present through community and connection. This event is for individuals of at all levels of fitness and all ages. Enjoy music and live performances in the park after the conclusion of the walk.
