Sun Country Dance Theatre presents their 18th Annual Spring Youth Concert, featuring an encore of “Hansel and Gretel”, an original story ballet choreographed by Artistic Director Judy Benton. This enchanting adaptation follows Hansel and Gretel as they get lost in a mysterious forest, meet whimsical characters, and face the eccentric Cotton Candy Witch, who plans to turn them into scrumptous confections. With cleverness and courage, the siblings outsmart the witch and break her magical spell. This fun, family-friendly performance is filled with lively choreography, colorful costumes, drama, and plenty of humor.

The program also premiers a unique and diverse collection of works, ranging from classical pointe, to contemporary, jazz, and modern, created by SCDT’s resident choreographers and three guest choreographers from New York City. Professional guest artists from The Florida Ballet (Jacksonville) will also perform.

This program is funded in part by a grant from the City of Gainesville, Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs Department, a CAPRA Accredited Agency; by a grant from the Thomas H. Maren/Emily Sabah-Maren Fund/Maine Community Foundation; SIMEDHealth; Matchmaker Realty, Tower Hill Insurance; D&P Dentistry; Michael Herriott, O.D.; India Bazaar, Indian Cuisine, & Indian Street Food; Laxton – Pepperidge Farm Snacks; Martin Kids Dental; and Sun Country Sports Center®.
