
Join Maggie Paxson at Camps Canal! Part of Payne's Prairie State Park, Camps Canal is a long wooded dike alongside a canal/wetlands. According to "A Birdwatcher's Guide to Alachua County, Florida" by Rex Rowan and Mike Manetz, a rancher called W.N. Camp dug this canal with the goal of redirecting water from the prairie into Orange Lake.

Trail Conditions: MOSQUITOES ARE LIKELY. Long straight gravel trail with limestone underneath parts of it. Up to 2-2.5 miles of walking. Water possible depending on drought conditions.
$ Parking: Small area to park on shoulder of road. Carpooling is encouraged.
What to Expect:
We will continue walking north along Camps Canal, time permitting, in search of migrants. 24 species of warblers have been found at this location in the month of September. This includes some uncommon fall warblers like Swainson's, Blackburnian, and Blue-Winged.
