Alachua Audubon has been responsible for adding housing for Purple Martins at multiple locations and all have been wildly successful. For this group trip, we will be talking about Purple Martin biology and meeting the birds up close. The goal is to perform a nest check on the colony and count eggs and hatchlings. Everyone should get the opportunity to be a participant in the data gathering for the 2026 nesting period.
Your hosts will be Rick Williams, Chris Zamora and Winnie Lante.
This trip will specifically highlight one unique species that depends significantly on human intervention for successful nesting. For those interested, we can explore the trails after to see what other species call Orange Lake Overlook home.
