Gainesville Young Birders Club walk at Cofrin Nature Park. Join trip leader Maggie Paxson for an easy, beginner friendly birding walk in one of Gainesville's newer parks. We'll hike the 0.5 mile wooded trail, stopping along the way to look for songbirds and other winter residents. We'll pay special attention along Beville Heights Creek, looking for woodpeckers, vireos, warblers, and Hermit Thrush which rely on the stream for water and insect food sources that stay near it.
Students should wear closed-toe shoes and sunscreen and bring water for the walk. This is a mostly wooded trail, but bugs will likely not be bad in January. Loaner binoculars are available for students who cannot bring their own pair.
The Gainesville YBC is open to students aged 9-18, but parents and younger siblings with parental supervision are always welcome.
