Alachua Habitat for Humanity seeks the elimination of poverty housing and hopelessness through the construction of safe, affordable homes for families in need. They have already built or rehabilitated over 200,000 homes throughout the world, giving more than a million people safe, affordable, decent housing.
What YOU can do to help: Volunteers are needed in many areas of this ministry.
Clerical support is needed in the administrative office to help with the various departments that make up our organization. Volunteers need basic to advanced computer experience. Hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
ReStore volunteers (ages 16 and up) must be able to work independently with guidance from staff members. Must be able to work at least a 3 hour shift, standing at most times. Volunteers will be assisting in merchandising and stocking ReStore shelves, putting books out for sale, helping customers with their purchases and moving furniture around (with assistance).
Construction Site Volunteers (ages 18 and up) are needed to help build houses and complete tasks at the construction site. Experience in construction is not necessary to volunteer as a construction site volunteer. If you do have construction experience, you can volunteer to be a house supervisor or crew leader.
If you don't want to swing a hammer, then we are always looking for volunteers to provide lunch to our construction volunteers. Lunch typically covers 20 to 25 volunteers. This is a great opportunity for families, faith-based organizations, or small groups that want to be involved but don't want to build.
