Kids can get an up-close view of real-life rescue heroes and their environs with a fire-station tour. Tours are tailored to the age of the group. You don't have to be a school group or a scout pack to sign up; playgroups or just a group of friends are welcome to book a tour at the station most convenient to you. Kids get to try on pint-size helmets, boots, pants, suspenders and jackets, and clomp around looking like real firefighters. The tour also includes fire-safety tips, from the importance of an escape plan to the old standby: "stop, drop and roll." Gainesville Fire Rescue Education Department
