Alachua County Library: Library of Things

Check out one of the many items in our Library of Things collection. We have various items you can check out just like books, including our WiFi2Go hotspots, Sensory Toys, and STEM kits. Items are available to request and pick up at any of our locations and the collections continues to grow.

We also have our Seed Library at all our locations, where you can get seeds to plant for yourself.

Birding Kits: Ideal for beginner and intermediate birdwatchers, each kit is neatly contained within a backpack. Inside, patrons will find three items: a pair of Vortex Raptor binoculars in a carrying case; the book Sibley Birds East: Field Guide to Birds of Eastern North America; and a resource guide prepared by the Alachua Audubon Society, including information on bird-friendly wildflowers and a guide on Alachua County's best parks for birding.

Sensory Toys: Each toy is in a red canvas bag with the title on a tag. Additionally, each contains a laminated sheet with information about the toy. Some toys are appropriate for babies, and others are for children older than 3 years old

Stem Kits: Each kit includes hands-on exploration with an interactive toy, book, and DVD. The interactive toys include activities, learning games, or age appropriate scientific equipment.

Seed Library: contains a selection of vegetable, herb, and flower seeds. Our selection changes throughout the year based on donations.

Exploration Backpacks: filled with items to foster discovery in nature. They will have binoculars, a plant press, butterfly net, bug enclosure, bug lens, hand lens, a clipboard, a pocket microscope, and instructions in English and Spanish.

Wattometer: Check out your energy consumption with a wattmeter. Each 1 Kill-a-watt EZ wattmeter comes in a hard-shell padded case and checks out for one week

WiFi2Go: residents can check out mobile Wi-Fi hotspots to connect to the Internet on computers, smartphones, and other devices. Up to five devices can connect to the hotspot at one time and there are no data plan fees or data limits. Service is dependent on the availability of the T-Mobile network where the hotspot is being used.
