SUMMARY:Young Birders Club Walk (Alachua Audubon Society) - Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park Visitor Center
LOCATION:La Chua Trail 4270 SE 15th St, Gainesville, FL 32641
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:The Gainesville Young Birders Club is a birdwatching club for students aged
9 to 17 seeking to explore local natural areas and learn more about birds
and the places they inhabit. Attending students should wear sunscreen and c
losed-toed shoes and bring water. Loaner pairs of binoculars will be availa
ble for students who do not have access to a pair. Younger students are wel
come with an accompanying parent or guardian. No membership in Alachua Audu
bon is required for any attendees.\n\nAccess the Paynes Prairie main Visito
r Center on Savannah Blvd. from the US-441 main park entrance. Please note
that the park entry is $6 per vehicle or free with a Florida State Parks Pa
ss.\n\nMeet trip leaders Maggie Paxson and Adam Kent on the steps in front
of the Visitor Center. First, we'll hike a very short trail to the observat
ion tower then climb the roughly 3-stories of stairs and use spotting scope
s to look for ducks, cranes, and other birds. Afterwards we'll walk a short
trail east from the Visitors Center towards the southern end of Cones Dike
Trail. We’ll have the potential for both sparrows and shorebirds along var
ious points of this trail. \n\nPlease feel free to pass along this walk inf
o to others who may be interested. The YBC will hold walks on a roughly mon
 thly basis through May.
