SUMMARY:Community Connectedness: Healing the Hidden Wounds of Gun Violence
LOCATION:Online Event
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:June is Gun Violence Awareness Month. While I approach this month as a lice
nsed therapist, I also approach it as a survivor. As a therapist, I underst
and the theories of trauma, grief, resilience, and healing. Yet no amount o
f education can fully separate me from the reality that gun violence has re
peatedly touched my own life. These experiences have shaped how I navigate
the world, how I connect with others, and how I show up professionally. \n
\nGun violence leaves more than physical wounds. It leaves birthdays uncele
brated, graduations unattended, empty chairs at family gatherings, and comm
unities forever altered. It leaves survivors carrying memories, questions,
fears, and grief that often persist long after the headlines fade.\n\nFor G
un Violence Awareness Month, we will honor those whose lives were taken too
soon. as well as honor the survivors who carry the weight of unimaginable
loss. We will recognize the strength it takes to continue living, loving, a
nd hoping in the aftermath of tragedy.\n\nHealing does not mean forgetting.
Healing means learning how to carry what cannot be changed while continui
ng to move forward with purpose, connection, and hope.\n\nCommunity Connect
edness: Healing the Hidden Wounds of Gun Violence will...\n• Increase under
standing of the psychological impact of gun violence, including traumatic g
rief\n• Promote the importance of impact of Community Trauma and Community
Connectedness \n• Identify Risk and Protective Factors for Youth\n• Outline
Healing Strategies for Survivors and Communities \n\nFacilitator: Mimi Cul
pepper, QS, LMHC, CPC, MCAP, CCTP, owner of Guiding Growth Therapy, LLC
