SUMMARY: Kika Silva Pla Planetarium Show - Polaris The Space Submarine and the Mystery of the Polar Night
LOCATION:Kika Silva Pla Planetarium at Santa Fe College 3000 NW 83rd Street, Gainesv
ille, FL 32606
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:James, a traveling penguin from the South Pole, and Vladimir, a funny bear
from the North Pole, meet on the Arctic sea ice. They become friends, and t
his scientifically-gifted pair talk about their respective regions and obse
rve the stars together, wondering why the night is so long at the poles of
the Earth.

Novice astronomers, they are trying to solve this mys
tery by reasoning and observation. Thanks to the rigor of James and the inv
entive genius of Vladimir, their scientific adventure leads them to build a
n observatory and then an improvised spaceship. During a trip around the Ea
rth, extended to Mars and Saturn, they get their answer and discover that t
he planets have similarities but also differences.

Polaris is a
playful story combining pedagogy and astonishing 3D effects. Addressing ast
ronomical concepts such as the tilt of the Earth's axis, planetary types an
d ice in the solar system, the show also introduces key elements of the sci
entific method.

Ages: All
