SUMMARY:Florida Museum of Natural History Science Surprises: Splash Into Science
LOCATION:Alachua Branch (Meeting Room) 14913 NW 140 Street Alachua, FL 32615
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:The Florida Museum of Natural History presents Science Surprises: Splash In
to Science. In this program, participants will learn about the properties o
f water while exploring natural phenomenon.\n\nThe Florida Museum of Natura
l History presents Science Surprises: Splash Into Science. In this program,
participants will explore natural phenomenon and how they occur by underst
anding the nature of science. Attendees will become better observers and pr
oblem solvers while also learning to use their creativity and communication
skills.\n\nThis series will explore the following topics.\n\nTopic 1: Expl
oring the water cycle – Learn about the water cycle in this fun interactive
game! See how water changes from solid to liquid to gas and travels around
the Earth. Explore how plants use water and release it into the air. Join
the adventure as a water molecule!\n\nTopic 2: Exploring capillary action –
How does water move up a plant from the roots to the leaves? This is calle
d capillary action, and it’s a special property of water. This activity wil
l show how water moves through coffee filters and washable markers because
of capillary action.\n\nTopic 3: Exploring surface tension – Did you know t
hat some bugs and tiny organisms can walk on water? They can do this becaus
e of a special property of water called surface tension. In this activity,
you will discover the answers to these questions and more!\n\nTopic 4: Expl
oring density – Have you ever wondered how turtles can swim and dive deep i
nto the water? It’s all about density and buoyancy! This activity will help
you understand these concepts better by letting you build a density bottle
with different kinds of liquids and objects.
