LOCATION:Matheson History Museum 513 E University Ave, Gainesville, FL 32601
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Until the nineteenth century, steamboats provided the major means of transp

as home to multiple steamboat lines, which operated on Lake Alto, Lake Sant

on Alachua County. 19th century Florida roads were swampy and sandy, so wh
en the Florida Railroad arrived in Gainesville on February 1, 1859, the cou
nty’s history was changed forever.\n\nDr. Noll’s presentation covers the de
cades of development and infrastructure of Florida’s transportation industr
y and intersections with contemporary issues of the state.\n\nThis program
is sponsored in part by Visit Gainesville/Alachua County, FL and The City o
