SUMMARY:Alachua Audubon Field Trip: Meet the Purple Martins of Orange Lake Overlook
LOCATION:Marjorie A. Hoy Memorial Park at Orange Lake Overlook, 19865 US-441, Micano
 py, FL 32667
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Alachua Audubon has been responsible for adding housing for Purple Martins
at multiple locations and all have been wildly successful. For this group
trip, we will be talking about Purple Martin biology and meeting the birds
up close. The goal is to perform a nest check on the colony and count eggs
and hatchlings. Everyone should get the opportunity to be a participant i
n the data gathering for the 2026 nesting period. \n\nYour hosts will be Ri
ck Williams, Chris Zamora and Winnie Lante. \n\nThis trip will specifically
highlight one unique species that depends significantly on human intervent
ion for successful nesting. For those interested, we can explore the trails
after to see what other species call Orange Lake Overlook home. \n\nMore i
nformation about this 155-acre Alachua Conservation Trust preserve can be f
ound here: Alachua Conservation Trust — Orange Lake Overlook
