The TrialNet team from UF will be screening eligible relatives of people with type 1 diabetes through the Pathway to Prevention Study. Participating involves a simple blood test that could detect an increased risk up to ten years before symptoms appear. Anyone between the ages of 2.5 and 45 with a sibling, child, or parent with type 1 diabetes or anyone between the ages of 2.5 and 20 with a cousin, niece/nephew, aunt/uncle, grandparent, half-sister or half-brother with type 1 may be eligible for testing at no cost. Relatives who are found to be at a greater risk, may be eligible to participate in ongoing monitoring, or join trials aimed at preventing progression of type 1 diabetes.
