Join author and attorney Dr. Allison Matulli ("Dr. Ally" as the kiddos call her) and PEN America for an interactive, one-hour family program celebrating the release of her new picture book, WE ARE FREE: Our First Amendment Rights.
Designed for children and families, the WE ARE FREE Power Hour makes big ideas tangible, joyful, and age-appropriate through storytime, energetic conversation, and hands-on art. The central message is simple: WE ARE FREE to read stories that spark our imagination. WE ARE FREE to ask questions and stay curious. WE ARE FREE to imagine new possibilities and create. WE ARE FREE to speak up, listen, and be heard.
Event Schedule:
• Welcome + Author Storytime (15 mins): Dr. Ally and a featured Florida children's author kick off the hour with a lively reading and a conversation about the power of storytelling.
• Find Your Freedom Conversation (10 mins): Children participate in an engaging group discussion answering prompts about what freedom, curiosity, and using their voice mean to them.
• Create the "WE ARE FREE" Wall (20 mins): Using provided art supplies, children decorate speech bubbles and mini-posters sharing what matters to them, adding their creations to a collective community display.
• Book Signing & Availability Celebrate the release of WE ARE FREE: Our First Amendment Rights (releasing September 29, 2026)! Copies will be available on-site for purchase and signing, alongside Dr. Ally’s acclaimed middle-grade book, Your Freedom, Your Power - A Kid's Guide to the First Amendment.
Let's empower all kids to know their first freedoms!
