Gainesville YBC Walk – LaChua Trail

  • When: Saturday, September 27, 2025,  9:00 am - 11:00 am
  • Location: LaChua Trail Micanopy, FL
  • Cost: free

The Gainesville YBC is a birdwatching club for students aged 9-18 seeking to explore local natural areas and learn more about birds and the places they inhabit.

Our first walk for fall will take place Saturday, September 27 at 9am at La Chua Trail. Meet trip leader and Audubon Board member Maggie Paxson in the parking lot for the La Chua Trailhead located at 4270 SE 15th St, Gainesville, FL 32641.

Attending students should wear sunscreen and closed toed shoes and bring water. Loaner pairs of binoculars will be available for students who do not have access to a pair.

We'll hike out to the board walk and a bit beyond looking for wading birds like herons and egrets, and will scan the trees along the wooded edge on the walk back looking for migrant songbirds. We'll finish by 11am, and should see at least 35 different types of birds.

Younger students are welcome with a parent or guardian accompanying, no membership in Alachua Audubon required for any attendees.

Please feel free to pass along this walk info to others who may be interested. The YBC will hold walks on a roughly monthly basis through May.
