Mark your calendars for a concert by the University of Florida Symphonic Band, under the direction of Prof. Jay Watkins, on Tuesday, April 22nd at 7:20pm in the University Auditorium. For their final concert of the season, the Symphonic Band will present and exciting and varied program featuring percussionist, Dr. Danielle Moreau.
American Overture by Joseph Wilcox Jenkins is his first composition for band, written at the age of 25. This energetic piece offers expansive instrumentation, following the uniquity of the U.S. Army Field Band at the time of composition, for whom Jenkins had served as an arranger.
Edward Elgar's Enigma Variations is one of the most prominent works in the composer's catalogue. Following the presentation of an original theme, the numerous variations depict different people who were influential throughout Elgar's life and career as a composer.
Watch graduate conductor, Avi Kohn lead a performance of a staple work from highly-influential composer Alfred Reed, El Camino Real ("The Royal Road" or "The King's Highway"). A colorful fantasy which reimagines and combines Spanish folk melodies with the harmonic commonalities of the Flamenco style.
Accomplished percussionist Dr. Danielle Moreau joins the UF Symphonic Band for a performance of Michael Daugherty's Raise the Roof! a unique concerto which presents the refined musicianship Dr. Moreau as a timpanist accompanied by the band in an exciting exploration of tone color and percussion techniques.
