Join the City of Gainesville to observe the 20th anniversary of the September 11 attacks with a ceremony in remembrance of those who lost their lives as a result of the acts of terror on September 11, 2001. A joint honor guard from Gainesville Fire Rescue and Gainesville Police Department will open the event. On this National Day of Service and Remembrance, members of the faith community will lead blessings and join city leaders to honor the victims of the attacks by asking all neighbors to observe the day with acts of kindness, generosity and service, beginning with a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m., the moment when the first airplane struck the World Trade Center in New York City. Houses of worship are encouraged to toll their bells at that time.

The event is free and open to the public. To help ensure public health and safety, neighbors are asked to practice social distancing at the event. Additional parking is available next door at Phalanx (1125 NE Eighth Ave.).
