At our last Town Hall Meeting on July 15th, we at Right Care Alliance Gainesville reviewed the known facts about how SARS-CoV-2 virus spreads and the potential impact of children at different ages may have on this spread. We then discussed some of the potential strategies to reduce the risk of infection as we consider school openings. Our discussion highlighted the multiple risks and benefits that need to be considered and our final conclusions about when and how to open “It depends.”
For our second Town Hall Meeting on Wednesday, July 29th from 5-6 PM we look forward to having Alachua County School Superintendent Karen Clarke join us. And after a few brief remarks from our infectious disease expert Dr. Fred Southwick and the superintendent, we plan to open the floor to questions and discussion. We are also thrilled to be having Dr. Sonja Rasmussen join us. Dr. Rasmussen is a Professor of Pediatrics and Epidemiology at UF who previously served in the CDC for 20 years. Pediatric Infectious Diseases Specialist Dr. Kathleen Ryan will be joining us as well. Come and share your concerns and suggestions. The viewpoints of parents, students, teachers, administrators and infectious disease experts will be aired with the goal of providing a deeper understanding of how to most effectively open our schools.
