There is a reason why the YMCA is referred to as America's Favorite Swim Instructor. In Y classes, not only are you taught in a caring way how to swim, but you also learn about yourself, about safety and rescue skills, and about water activities you can enjoy for a lifetime. Class size is determined by considering safety factors and participants' ages, making sure classes don't get too big to be comfortable. The Northwood Family YMCA offers a Parent-Child Aquatic Program which promotes water enrichment and aquatic readiness activities for children from 6 months up to 36 months of age and their parents. The Preschool Aquatic Program teaches water adjustment and basic swimming skills for children from 3 to 5 years of age. The Youth Aquatic Program for those ages 6 to 15 is oriented toward student-centered learning. It is designed to ensure the student's safety with each level progressing to new skills.
