Science Tutoring

and other skills for Middle Schoolers

with John Young

The middle grades are a crucial time in the development of a child. They occur during the transition from child to teen. These are the years during which habits are formed. Upon entering the middle grades, each child should know how to read and write, and to perform basic math. Next, they need to begin learning how to use these skills to create successful outcomes in all areas. They know how to tell time and read a calendar. The next associated skill is to use these for time management.

After teaching middle school for 29 years, I've learned that the most important skills are how to use the basic skills from elementary school to become a successful high school student. Students must learn to organize their materials and time to accomplish the current task while being cognizant of the next tasks. All of this without becoming overwhelmed.
