On May 21, 50+ vehicles will gather at the Northeast Complex for a day full of fun for the whole family. From 9 am to 2 pm, kids can climb on and explore a hot air balloon, helicopter, tractor, crane, firetruck and more, all while learning how to be safe around large vehicles. The trucks will silence their honks, horns and sirens from 9-10 am for "quiet hour" so everyone can enjoy the vehicles.

Mike Manfreidi, owner of Sweet Dreams Ice Cream, and Krista Ott with Gainesville Fire Rescue started the event in 2010, and it has grown into one of the most attended family events in Gainesville. Fun4GatorKids is sponsoring the event this year for the first time. founder Kathy Stewart has been looking for ways to give back to the community that has made her family resource website successful. "I recognized that Michael and Krista had created a special event which was successful as a way to raise money and donations for children's programs," Stewart said. "Because has such strong connections to local families and businesses, it seemed like the Touch-a-Truck event was the perfect fit."

In addition to the field full of vehicles, 20+ kid-friendly vendors will be at the event with fun activities, from obstacle courses to art projects. Most of the activities will be free for families, but there will be a handful of activities for a small fee, with the proceeds going to support the Gainesville Arts and Parks Foundation.

"I wanted the event to benefit kids in our community because that's who Fun 4 Gator Kids serves," Stewart said. "The City of Gainesville Parks and Recreation Department has been a huge supporter of Fun 4 Gator Kids ever since the site launched, and I wanted to be able to give back."

Paid activities include: a balloon slingshot, face painting by Fabulous Faces, Tim's Train Rides, and a large area of inflatables (both dry and wet) from Bouncin' Big, so kids should bring along their swimsuits.

While admission to the event is FREE, Fun4GatorKids Touch-A-Truck is a proud to be an official drop-off location for food donations to support Food4Kids Backpack Program of North Central Florida, so be sure to bring a non-perishable or two to donate! All food collected at the event will help supply local children with food for summer.
